The year is almost over

So I do not think that I have ever in my life actually watched the full special that Barbara Walters does every year about the year's most interesting people. She started doing these specials in 1994 and has not missed a year since. By some happenstance, maybe my husband turned it on or it was what came on next last night, I ended up watching it. She had everyone from Justin Bieber, to the cast of Jersey Shore, to Sarah Palin, and finally she had Mark Zuckerberg. She said that she chose this year to feature Zuckerberg because of the movie that came out about him.

I found it crazy to think that this guy is only four years older than I am and so famous and so rich. The interesting part about the whole thing, though, was that Barbara did not do an interview with him. Now, there were a couple other of her top 10 that she did not do interview with, but it made me start to wonder why. Was it because she did not ask him? He said no? He had a previous engagement? I don't know why there was no in person interview, but it makes it seem a little strange. I also found it interesting that the main part of the section that she did on him was all off of the information provided from his own Facebook page and the interview that he did with Oprah. Keepig up with all of these names and faces is important if you are going to be up-to-date in the world of new media, so I just found it interesting to see what kind of segment Walters did on Zuckerberg without and interview with him.

New Day

So during the presentation on Youtube fame, I started to think about different people that I know that have posted videos of themselves. I have a friend who actually gained some fame from his Youtube posts. He is a singer/songwriter/guitar player and started doing very simple recordings of himself playing and singing in front of his webcam. I still do not understand how it happened, but his work just took off. Soon he was being featured on the main page of Youtube and he was going on tour all over the country.

Don't get me wrong, I think his music is awesome, but it is just crazy to think that this was how his fame took off. Soon when I heard people explaining to others it was like this: "O, you know Chris, he's the really good guitar player who had his stuff featured on Youtube."

There's your 15 minutes of fame, but what is it like to be known as a Youtube sensation? Does it get old being described like that? Just something to ponder I guess...
